Activity Point opportunities:
We are
currently discussing the activity point opportunities
we could approach as a group. If you have any ideas
for group projects, we would love to hear your suggestions!
Activities from past years that we are still supporting
include the following:
1. Induction ceremony. Every member will receive
1 point for attending.
2. Senior athletes with early dismissal: Tutoring
for STARS or at the Reading Clinic for points. You
will receive 1 point for every two tutoring sessions.
An activity-point form is needed for any tutoring.
3. Donate books to Read Aloud Spartanburg (Book
must be new or lovingly used). Any type of book is
okay. Collection begins now and ends April 28, 2008.
Turn books into sponsors. You will receive 1 point
for every 4 books you donate. Please bring only elementary
and middle school age books. There will be a limit
of 2 points.
4. Meyers Center for Special Children:
The Meyers Center is a special school for children
with exceptional handicaps. These children range
in age from 6 months to 10 years. We are no longer
collecting Christmas items, yet they still need our
help! You will receive 1 point for every two items
with a limit of 2 points. Please note that their
needs have changed. Needed items include:
Office Supplies
Preschool teacher supplies—construction paper, white
glue
Baby Wet wipes
Paper towels
Kleenex
Dish/clothes detergent
5. Jamboread in March 2008 at the Spartanburg Country
Library. This project promotes reading and encourages
Spartanburg residents to utilize the services of
the Spartanburg Country Library. Look for more information
in the near future.
6. Dinners—a member can receive one activity point
for attending a dinner sponsored by NHS. This year’s
dinners include a Christmas and Valentine’s Day dinner.
7. Band Competitions-- The band is hosting two indoor
competitions. CIPA (Carolina Indoor Performance Association)
on January 19. That is guard and percussion. They
expect to have a big show because Dorman is the only
premiere show in SC. Two years ago we had 34 units
and we expect more this year.
The next one will be a percussion show only (WGI)
on March 8.
They would appreciate having students to help with
these events.
